Dallas Goedert is OUT for Week 6 vs. Buccaneers

Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert will not be active for the team’s Week 6 matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday Night Football. Goedert tested positive for COVID-19 earlier in the week and needed two negative tests prior to Thursday’s game in order to be activated. The 4 pm ET deadline on Thursday came and went without the team activating Goedert, meaning he will not play tonight.

In corresponding moves, the Eagles elevated T Le’Raven Clark and recently-signed TE Noah Togiai from the practice squad as COVID-19 replacements. G Sua Opeta is also out for Thursday’s game.

The Eagles, of course, also have tight end Zach Ertz on the roster. After Ertz and Goedert, the team kept undrafted free agent Jack Stoll on the roster, and he has played sparingly on offense in select packages this season. The Eagles also have Jason Croom and Tyree Jackson on injured reserve and just yesterday signed former fan-favorite Noah Togiai to the practice squad.

Normally, it would be unlikely for a player signed on a Monday to be able to suit up and play for a new team just a few days later, but Togiai was with Sirianni in Indianapolis last season and is familiar with his offensive system. In fact, that may even be why the Eagles decided to sign him.

But look for Ertz to play the majority of the offensive snaps on Thursday, and head coach Nick Sirianni will likely lean more heavily on 11 personnel (one running back, one tight end) than he has through the first five weeks of the season. Tampa Bay has a stout run defense but a susceptible pass defense, so look for the Eagles to attempt to get DeVonta Smith, Jalen Reagor, and Quez Watkins involved early.
