Eagles release Week 2 injury report

While he already had a pretty good idea about what was coming, the Eagles released their official injury report on Friday. While the team will release injury reports on Tuesday and Wednesday every week (when that week’s game is on Sunday), the Friday injury report is the one with the official questionable, doubtful, and out designations.

And despite what many people think, those designations do matter, and the NFL keeps an eye on them. Because teams like the Patriots used to routinely list most of their team as probable or questionable, there are now some actual rules surrounding the designations.

Here is where things landed for Week 2.

Eagles Week 2 Injury Report

Javon Hargrave — None

Javon Hargrave avoiding an injury designation is a huge surprise here. After missing most of training camp and Week 1 with a pectoral strain, he practiced this week and will play on Sunday. He’ll likely rotate in with Hassan Ridgeway behind Fletcher Cox and Malik Jackson. Wow. Wow. Wow.

Lane Johnson — None

It’s interesting that Johnson is listed with a knee injury on the injury report when we know he had ankle surgery. Either way, he avoids a designation and is playing.

Miles Sanders — None

Miles Sanders said earlier in the day that he was 100% and would be playing, and the team’s official injury report confirms. He’ll be back in Week 2, but look for Doug Pederson to spell him occasionally after missing most of training camp with a hamstring injury.

Derek Barnett — Questionable

It’s a little disappointing that Barnett is listed as questionable and not a full-go, but he is expected to play on Sunday. We’ll find out for sure once inactives are announced on Sunday morning around 11:30, but the expectation here is that he plays and rotates with some combination of Brandon Graham (see below), Josh Sweat, and Genard Avery. Could Casey Toohill be activated this week with Vinny Curry on IR? Probably not, but it wouldn’t be the biggest surprise.

Brandon Graham — Questionable

Brandon Graham remains questionable with a concussion, but he is expected to play. Both Graham and Barnett were full participants in practice on Friday, and Graham would not be able to do that if he had not already cleared the first few phases of the league’s concussion protocol.

Alshon Jeffery — Out

No surprise here.

Jason Peters — None

Jason Peters apparently has a knee injury but is going to play. He did not look very good in Week 1, so here’s hoping that was just some rust and not age and/or injuries catching up to him.

As a reminder, defensive end Vinny Curry and cornerback Craig James both landed on injured reserve earlier in the week:
