Heading into an important Week 11 matchup, the Philadelphia Eagles and Cleveland Browns are both scrambling to adjust their rosters in the wake of multiple COVID outbreaks within their organizations. Both teams had to place multiple players on the Reserve/COVID-19 list this week, and most of those players will miss Sunday’s game.
The biggest name who will miss Sunday’s matchup is Myles Garrett, the Browns superstar defensive end who was famously suspended last season for acting like a madman and attacking Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph with his own helmet on national television. Garrett tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Week 11.
Earlier in the week, Browns right tackle Jack Conklin and kicker Cody Parkey were placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. However, both have been cleared and will be active on Sunday. Offensive tackle Chris Hubbard and fullback Andy Janovich are also both on the Reserve/COVID-19 list and will miss Sunday’s Week 11 matchup.
To help fill out their roster, the Browns elevated fullback Johnny Stanton and guard Michael Dunn from the practice squad to the active roster.
As for the Eagles…
On the Eagles’ side of things, multiple players and coaches will miss Sunday’s matchup with the Browns due to COVID-related issues. Defensive assistant Jeremiah Washburn will be unavailable for the second straight game, while quarterbacks coach/passing game coordinator Press Taylor and wide receivers coach Aaron Moorehead will miss Sunday’s game.
As for players who will miss the game, wide receiver J.J. Arcega-Whiteside reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 and was subsequently placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list. Practice squad wide receiver Deontay Burnett was determined to be a close contact of Arcega-Whiteside’s and was also placed on the list. Both will miss Sunday’s game. Arcega-Whiteside has been a disappointment since being selected in the second round of the NFL Draft and was a healthy scratch last week against the Giants.
John Hightower was held out of practice earlier this week because of possible exposure, but he was NOT placed on the list and is expected to be active on Sunday.
Running back Corey Clement and defensive end Vinny Curry were both believed to be in close contact with someone other than Arcega-Whiteside, and both will miss Sunday’s matchup. To help fill out their roster, the Eagles promoted four players from the practice squad.
Fan-favorites defensive end Joe Ostman and running back Elijah Holyfield were both promoted from the practice squad, as were defensive tackle T.Y. McGill and tight end Caleb Wilson.
