The Eagles made a couple of roster moves on Tuesday morning, trading cornerback Jameson Houston and a 2023 sixth-round pick to the Jacksonville Jaguars in exchange for cornerback and 2020 fourth-round pick Josiah Scott and signing reserve offensive tackle Casey Tucker. Tucker had been with the Colts on a reserve/futures contract and spent time on the Eagles practice squad in 2020.
As Tim McManus notes above, Scott is just 22 years old. It is somewhat surprising to see the Jaguars move on from a fourth-round pick after just one season, but remember this: Jacksonville has a new coaching staff and a new general manager. They have no loyalty to the players brought in by the previous regime.
Scott is just 5’9″ and thus is likely more suited for the slot and not the team’s gaping hole at CB2. For those keeping track, the team’s current projected depth chart in the secondary looks something like this:
CB | Darius Slay | Michael Jacquet | Shakial Taylor | Nate Meadors
S | Anthony Harris | Marcus Epps | Andrew Adams | Elijah Riley
S | Rodney McLeod | K’Von Wallace | Grayland Arnold
CB | Zech McPhearson | Craig James | Kevon Seymour
SCB | Avonte Maddox | Josiah Scott | Lavert Hill |
Much can change between now and the start of the season and even now and the start of training camp, but the Eagles have now added Scott and Nate Meadors in the past week to add more competition in the secondary. They could still use a proven starter (or at the very least a veteran who has started in the league before) at their second outside corner position, but it remains to be seen if Howie Roseman is going to make such a move.
Fun fact: Josiah Scott is apparently a big Eagles fan. Bonus points for the young corner.
