If history has taught me anything, Twitter will continue to tell me that the Eagles haven’t beaten anyone, despite facing three division leaders and the #1 offense in the NFL. Admittedly, there are only two or three ‘great’ teams in the entire NFL, but the Eagles are one of them, and every other conceivable one is in the AFC. So, for whomever isn’t already, my advice is don’t overanalyze and simply enjoy the ride hereon.
Individual Plays
1-3:00 Smith Catch
I was recently speaking about what qualified as a “him” throw with my family, moments that differentiate the good from great. Throws like this are what cement that divide, the play extension ability that differentiates the franchise QBs from the fill-ins. You’d obviously love to see play extension turn into touchdowns, but as I said before, what is a touchdown if not a series of smaller plays?
3-5:30 Hassan Reddick Sack
I love it when a free agent makes a big play! The best part is this isn’t the first time Reddick made his presence felt in the season. Reddick is typically used as a pass rusher by us, so seeing him make it home, especially in a close game.
4-4:30 Hurts Conversion
The second of two clutch Hurts conversions on the day. I selected this one over the other one because similar to the Ertz catch in the Super Bowl, this was the conversion that set up the last points of the game. Anyone who looked at the final score knows how close this game was.
1-8:00 CJGJ INT
This interception is what first gave me Eagles-Saints vibes. Remember when Rodney McLeod picked off Drew Brees, eventually culminating in a blown 14-point lead? Sounds familiar, doesn’t it? Fortunately this game ended better than the one from the 2018-19 playoffs. 5-0 is a nice feeling, but only the future knows if anything will come of it.
2-10:14 Hurts TD
Jalen Hurts being a bulldozer should be expected by now. Like Wentz before him, Hurts is near impossible to stop in goal-to-go situations, especially considering how much he opens up for others if he decides he doesn’t want to run it himself. If the Eagles reach the one or two-yard line, it’s essentially a touchdown-in-waiting.
4-0:20 Milton Williams Blocked FG
It’s unclear whether Milton got his hand on the ball or not. It seems that he got a piece of it depending on the angle that you looked from (both angles are available below). Since there’s a possibility Williams clipped it, however, and it’s my job to praise good plays where I see them, I have this as the second best of the day due to the impact this might’ve had on the game. Assuming this ball truly was tipped (shades of Treyvon Hester), I don’t think it’s hyperbolic to call this the biggest play of the game. If the Cardinals take us into OT, who knows what happens?
1-8:07 Hurts TD
What do I say all the time? The opening drive is so important for setting the pace for the game. At this point, for people playing Eagles bingo, “Jalen Hurts rushing TD” might as well be the free space. It’s easy to make running back jokes when Hurts has two running touchdowns on the day, but a touchdown is a touchdown.
