Needless to say, it’s been a good season so far (for the Eagles at least. Despite how sweet victory has been, however, not unnoticed is the ever-important battle for Pennsylvania. Both teams are playing with different levels of ambition. One hopes to keep their unbeaten streak alive, whilst one is merely seeking to scrape above .500. Side note: with how many clips I’m taking from Nick Piccone, I feel like I need to add him as a cosign or something.
Group Plays
4-13:41 Kenny Pickett Fumble
Whenever a defensive play occurs, there’s sometimes a question of whether it was a good play on defense or a bad play on defense. In this case, it’s moreseo a combination of both. Reddick and Ridgeway forced the pressure to create the errant decision, but Pickett flipping it for no particular reason didn’t help matters either. Either way, advantage Philadelphia.
4-4:29 in CJGJ Interception
Keeping with the theme of turnovers assisted by multiple teammates, the Eagles took one by air as well as one by land. TJ Edwards helped by getting his hand on the ball, yes, but the pass was so poorly thrown that I’d swear it was thrown by someone with two touchdowns and eight interceptions (oh wait). In Pickett’s defense, this is a defense that is towards the top of the league in takeaways and are just collecting heads at this point.
Individual Plays
3-1:55 Zech McPhearson ST Heroics
I might be biased, but this sure looked like a safety. When a player gets tackled in the end zone, after touching the ball, 99 times out of 100 it goes for points the other way. Technicalities aside, even if the Eagles couldn’t score on this play, putting Pittsburgh in a, to put it lightly, complicated position.
4-12:42 Miles Sanders TD
It’s amazing how little deception this play required to work. Sanders took an impressive cut to the outside, working through the waiting arms of a couple defenders to find home sweet home, aided by the threat of Hurts’ mobility and a nice block by AJ Brown. Who said Sanders has poor vision, again?
1-13:48 Haasan Reddick Sack
Unfortunately, this angle doesn’t show the time on the clock, but I couldn’t pass up showing it because of the angle it showed Reddick taking to the QB. Jab stepping past three defenders (who admittedly had their own issues to deal with), 7 obliterated Pickett for a loss. Aside: if Pickett was one number higher, I would definitely make a 7 ate 9 joke.
3-13:01 Zach Pascal TD
It’s admittedly difficult to have too much production as a wide receiver when you’re on the same offense as AJ Brown and Devonta Smith, but a sign of a good offense is when everybody gets a chance to eat. Hence, Pascal going in for his first TD of the year is a welcome sight not only because it counts for six, but because he proved Hurts is sharing the wealth.
AJ “Triple Crown” Brown
Speaking of fortuitous offseason additions, it seems like Brown is making not just one, but two or three big plays every week. I said that Brown would add three wins to our roster, but that might have been underselling it. Putting up three touchdowns as a receiver makes it hard to say any price would’ve been too high. These weren’t even layups either, they were throws into double and triple coverage. That just shows how much trust Hurts has in Brown and vice versa. These could be called ‘bad idea passes,’ but remember, it’s only a bad idea if it doesn’t work.
