Miles Sanders, Lane Johnson, and a seemingly unending list of other players missed the team’s Week 1 loss to the Washington Football Team. And on top of that, more players left Sunday’s game with injuries.
While Sanders was ruled out by the team on Saturday and didn’t even travel with the team, Johnson worked out before the game and was reportedly “expected to try to play.” Instead, the team held Johnson out and started Jack Driscoll at right tackle (before he left the game with cramping and was replaced by Jordan Mailata).
According to a new report from John Clark, the team is hopeful that both Sanders and Johnson will be able to play in Week 2’s matchup against the Los Angeles Rams at Lincoln Financial Field.
Now, this is a report coming from Clark, but he presumably spoke to someone with the Eagles. The Eagles, whether it is intentional or not, don’t exactly have the best recent track record when it comes to injuries and players returning from them. So, take this news with all of the grains of salt.
Sanders is dealing with a hamstring injury, while Johnson is still recovering from ankle surgery that he quietly had in August. Johnson was close to being able to play this week, so it would not be all that surprising to see him out there next week. Sanders has been limited by a hamstring injury since early on in training camp and, while he was originally designated as questionable, was ruled out by the team on Saturday.
While certainly possible, it would not be surprising to see Sanders miss another week. The team’s Week 1 loss to the Washington Football Team was a bad one, and they need all the reinforcements they can get after allowing Carson Wentz to be sacked eight times.
