Recap
The Eagles looked like a shell of themselves against their recent game against the Cowboys, getting absolutely demolished by a score of 33-13. The Cowboys jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first quarter & never looked back. The Eagles looked nothing short of abysmal against their NFC East rival; Philadelphia failed to score a touchdown on offense for the first time since 2019. The defense allowed 394 total yards and struggled extensively against Dallas’ offense; the Cowboys were able to move the ball easily throughout the game.
Positive Observations
1.) Jalen Carter
In a game where there weren’t many positive observations, Jalen Carter provided a glimmer of hope with his first NFL touchdown coming off of a sack from Fletcher Cox. Carter has been an animal this season, as he currently has the best odds (-550) to be named the Defensive Rookie of the Year.
Negative Observations
1.) Ball Security
Let’s face it: Dallas is a good team, and turning the ball over 3 times makes it almost impossible to beat them. The Eagles fumbled a whopping three (3!!!!) times in Cowboys territory during the game; these self inflicted wounds completely derailed the Eagles momentum. Hurts, Brown, and Smith all fumbled against Dallas; the Eagles leaders need to clean the turnovers up sooner rather than later.
2.) Defense
The defense looked… not good against Dallas. I know that the Cowboys have an electric offense with Dak playing at an MVP level & CeeDee Lamb putting up absurd numbers, but the defense didn’t look close to competitive. The Eagles have been outscored 75-32 over the last 8 quarters of football; this needs to change if they want any chance at making a playoff run.
3.) Offense
The Eagles offense looked… equally as bad against Dallas. For starters, the Eagles offense was unable to score a touchdown for the first time since 2019; the offense had no spark & consistently leaned on long-developing passing plays rather than opting for short & quick routes that were working. On top of this, DeVonta Smith & AJ Brown both had brutal drops in the red zone; this was easily the worst game that the offense has played this year.
Upcoming Opponent
Philadelphia (10-3) travels to Seattle to take on the Seahawks (6-7) on Monday Night Football at 8:15pm. The Eagles will be without CB Darius Slay, as he will miss a few weeks due to a knee surgery. Seattle will most likely be without starting QB Geno Smith, but backup Drew Lock still has an arsenal of weapons at his disposal. The keys in this game are finishing drives with touchdowns, good ball security, and limiting DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, & Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Although the Eagles are reeling with two straight losses, I think that this team is too talented to lose a third straight game.
Final Prediction- PHI: 24, SEA: 20
NFC East Standings
The updated NFC East standings are as follows:
- Philadelphia Eagles: 10-3
- Dallas Cowboys: 10-4
- New York Giants: 5-9
- Washington Commanders: 4-10
Final Thoughts
This season took an odd turn after the Buffalo game; the Eagles were absolutely dismantled in the next two games by their two biggest rivals in the NFC. The last two weeks of play have (rightfully) brought some criticism from Eagles fans & NFL analysts; the Eagles were flying high at 10-1 two weeks ago and have since plummeted back down to Earth. This game against Seattle won’t be an easy one; however, it gives this Eagles team the opportunity to silence some of the critics. I think that how the Eagles respond to two straight losses will be indicative of how the rest of their season goes. As always, Go Birds!
