We’ve made it to the final week of the NFL season, and this is going to be a tough week to bet. Not only is every team playing today (there are no Saturday, Monday, or Thursday games in Week 17), but many teams are resting players. Oh, and the Saints don’t have any running backs.
For the year, I’m 47-43-1 against the spread, which is good for 32nd overall out of more than 200 experts on BettingPros. When betting the moneyline, I’m 76-34-1, which is good for 37th. I can do better, but that’s not too shabby.
I am avoiding a few games in Week 17, and I should probably be avoiding more of them. Week 17 is always a crapshoot in the NFL. We have lame duck coaches who know they are about to be fired, players on losing teams who are still playing hard in hopes of either cashing in on contract incentives or finding a job with a new team next season, teams competing for playoff spots and seeding, and a whole bunch of players and coaches who have checked out mentally, whether they know it or not.
